Our Highlights document is an easy way to find out what’s been happening across our research programmes and other activities.

It gives you the latest on how our science is advancing knowledge and understanding of agricultural greenhouse gas emissions and developing technologies and practices to help reduce them.

For example, in 2022, the low-emissions breeding programme ramped up work measuring the methane from nearly 300 young dairy breeding bulls, who are expected to sire a significant proportion of the future New Zealand dairy herd.

Work on nitrous oxide inhibitors continued to show great promise with the identification of new compound and commencement of discussions with a potential commercial partner.

We launched a new research programme focused on what a low-emissions future might look like for farming in Aotearoa New Zealand, and our new Māori research programme began to take shape.
