PGgRc is a research consortium that aims to decrease total agricultural emissions of greenhouse gases by 10% per unit of output in 2013 relative to 2004. PGgRc has formed excellent links between the agriculture sector and GHG mitigation research.

Reducing New Zealand's Agricultural Greenhouse Gases: Low Greenhouse Gas Feeds

This publication provides an overview of how various feeds (e.g. grass silage, brassicas, cereal and root crops, maize silage, palm kernel extract) may affect greenhouse gas emissions. It shows what the NZAGRC and PGgRc research programme has investigated so far on methane yields, its broad conclusions, and discussion of current and future research. Finally some specific findings on manipulating certain components of pasture (e.g. sugars, lipids), and further testing on brassica crops, fooder beet, and non-pasture feeds are provided.
