Ackim helps to implement New Zealand’s engagement strategy with the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) in Africa. 

The role encompasses a wide range of science and policy-related responsibilities, working closely with the Ministry for Primary Industries GRA team, including supporting other African countries to learn about and join the GRA.

Ackim works in selected African countries to enhance their capacity to estimate and take steps to reduce agricultural greenhouse gases at the national and regional scale. This includes establishing strategic partnerships with relevant stakeholders and working with in-country experts to develop and deliver capability building initiatives and research programmes that allow countries to move to higher tier national inventory accounting methods and identify mitigation opportunities.

With over 10-years’ experience in the agricultural and environment sectors covering both science and policy in Africa and abroad, Ackim possess exceptional knowledge of existing and emerging development and globalization opportunities and challenges in Africa, bringing a Global South perspective to international climate change/agricultural research and development.

Ackim holds a PhD in Natural Resource Management and Master of Environmental Management (with distinction) from Massey University, New Zealand, and has achieved other academic successes in Zambia, Portugal, Germany, and China.
